PIcasa vs flickr?

  182
What ones do you use? rate? whats better and why?

I looked at flickr and started using picasa, as you get 1gb free, and its Google! and personally i like anything done by google, but havent tried flickr, and seeing everyone talk about it on here i thought i might be missing out!!

i did try the flickr uploader but tbh picasa uploader knocks the socks of that! layout and ease of use i wouldnt know! spose you might be right with ease of use from what ive seen!

How secure are flickr pics are they all public?

ok thats cool!! just looked at the copyright for picasa and there yours unless you state, and you can mark them with the cc licence as well when you share them!

Biggest downside to Flickr (which I've only just started using instead of Photobucket) is that you 'have' to post your pictures using the HTML code they provide. That's fine, but it bloody doesn't work on BBCode forums so it's a pain in the arse having to change all the codes to post on here and every other forum.

No you don't. I have never had to do that. Don't know what you're doing wrong mate.

Right click and copy image address, paste onto here and take the bit after .jpg off.

Says this under every photo ...

To link to this photo on other websites you can either:

1. Copy and paste this HTML into your webpage:

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/33678063@N05/3171548948/" title="RS gearknob by plastik fantastik, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3077/3171548948_054c5fdd00.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="RS gearknob" /></a>

2. Grab the photo's URL:

Remember! Flickr Community Guidelines specify that if you post a Flickr photo on an external website, the photo must link back to its photo page. (So, use Option 1.)
Now if I use option 1, like it tells me I have to as it's something that you have agreed to in the guidelines (apparently), the photo won't appear. You have to translate their HTML code to BBCode for forum use .. .. ..

Or maybe I'm doing it wrong, someone tell me? I've been reading through the FAQ and the forum searching for a solution to the problem and it seems that there's quite a few people complain about having to do it.

That above HTML code when changed to BBCode comes out as

I used that until I found out where I was going wrong but apparently in the "guidelines", the account can be disabled if I don't use option 1.

Where are you pulling the generated code from? I'm in picking a photo in the photostream, choosing the size and the code is automatically generated underneath ..

What they say is entirely correct.

Note "external WEBSITE". The attached HTML code will display the photo on a website but when clicked link back to flickr.

When hotlinking or embedding on a forum (which they don't mean when they refer to external website) the direct url is all you need.

Open the photo you want and right click on the image and copy the image address. Thats the bit you need.

Taking the direct .jpeg url was what I had been doing until I figured out what I thought I was supposed to do. But, forums are not considered external websites?

That saves a whole lot of hassle

I've never used Picasa but I'm very set in my ways with Flickr which I've been using for about 4 months now.

I tested Picasa on my Mac last night and it was fairly straightforward and impressive. I've never looked at Flickr.

i picasa it takes 1 click to download from my camera and store them in a dated folder, 1 click to open them in photoshop, and 1 click to upload them to a web album! love the easyness! as well as you can select the size you want to upload, add tags to photos for googlemaps, make them private (3 settings) and tag them, it also displays all the exif data for you, i havent tried picasa's editing suite, I use photoshop!
