Picked it up today

  2003 172
FINALLY picked up my 172 today. Bought it from my brother in law for the princely sum of £400. Its very tatty inside and out and it knocks and clunks when you drive it but i am really happy. For 400 quid i cant complain. Hes done a bit of work on it and its had a recon gearbox (Ive now got the old one which has a noisy output bearing)
Paintwork is rough in places and looks like lacquer peeled off and there are a few scrapes a dents.
Ive got a LOT of work to do and i am happy about it!!!

Finally got a little project car after 4 years of doing the family thing and driving a diesel mondeo. I am gonna have questions for you lot!

Ha ha haaaa,
Thanks for that! I deliberately took pics of the bad bits

Good for you, spend your £`s on making it a fantastic, thrashable drive.
Badly maintained cars end in a hedge which decimates all the gleam that goes into a polished turd.

Good for you, a bargain fun car. If it was me I would only do cheap jobs on it - enjoy it till it blows up. It will soon cease to be a bargain if you pile lots of money in. Very easy to do that.

As above. Don't go wasting all your money on it. Just enjoy it and abuse it:)

You'll love it

Welcome to the club mate.

Keep an eye on the south east meet section. We have some decent breakfasts meets over North Weald airfield in the summer.

Yeah it's purely for me to abuse. Drive 7 miles to work and back every day. I'm gonna sort whatever is clunking and banging (bushes and dampers?) but I'm not gonna throw performance parts at it. I'll try and tidy it up a bit too. If I get on with it I might buy a nicer/newer one and keep this as a donor for spares. Plan on doing a few track days when i solve the bad noises ha ha. It's done 97000 which isn't too bad for a 52 plate and the engine seems OK. It had a new Cambelt, clutch and recon gearbox less than 2000 miles ago too. I think it sounds like there could be a noisy pulley somewhere but I'm not gonna obsess over that for now. Need to sort the banging noises first.
Breakfast at wings cafe sounds good to me!
