picked the valver up on sat

  F4R'd ITB'd '92 cup racer
well saturday was an 'interesting' day :S

borrowed my brother in laws van and went to pick up a trailer i was borrowing off a friend of a friend (never seen this trailer before but was told the lad uses it to transport land rovers!)

This thing was rotten to high heaven! just driving down the road a light fell off that had rusted right through the brackets, didnt have any brakes and the small wheel at the front was held on by washing line wire!! mmmm great i thought, but it was too late to hire another trailer for the day so off we went

got there ok, couldnt believe the winch on the trailer actually worked, saved us alot of hassle

drove back to the gf's house where the car is going to be kept, got it off the trailer and set about finding out why it wasnt running, went through the process of elimination checking the usual, found we werent getting a spark from dizzy to leads, had to be one of 2 things didnt it, either the dizzy connections were goosed, or the dizzy wasnt turning, and what do you know (it wasnt the simple one put it that way!)

so whipped the rocker cover off and found the cambelt to be looser than a hookers *****

so i have 2 options here, give up on the 114k valver engine and find a replacement (172 lump was always on the cards) or do i fit a new cambelt to the valver and pray it hasnt bent a valve. i am leaning heavily towards the 172 option as even if i do get the valver working how long it will last on a track day is anyones guess! :S

anyway after diagnosing the problem i treated the old girl to meguiars stage 1,2 and 3 ro brighten her up. could tell the car had never been polished in its life!! just finished waxing it and the heavens opened so the only pics i have are of it wet  (also removed the williams stickers the owner before last had put on :nono: )

next step is to strip her out and source a new engine

nice buy for the money any kind of rust on body work ?

yeh both rear arches have a bit of rust, one worse than the other, ive sprayed some waxoyl on it to try and slow it down a bit :S but this car was never bought to look good ( i have the 106 for that:) ) it was bought as a shell to house an engine and me :D (altho i did treat it to some megs but thats cos i felt sorry for her after the snapped cambelt)

i have been doing some thinking over the past few days, mostly regarding the engine, i really did have my heart set on a 172 lump, but if i cant find one soon im gonna end up either reconning the 1.8 or finding a replacement 1.8

i think it would be a good learning process to strip down the valver lump and then do most of the work myself, will help me in the future if anything goes wrong!

i will be keeping my eyes open for a well priced 172 aswell though, just in case
