picking up my new car today!

  clio 182 FF
Morning all!

Im quite exited today. I bought myself a 54 plate clio 182 with both cup packs and today is the day i pick it Up.

Basically, my previous car (a 2000 subaru legacy b4 rsk) was written off in april when me and the wife were involved in a minor pileup. So 4 months later and i finaly recieve the cheque from the insurance company. I spent a few weeks looking around for a new car but was unsure what i was after. I wanted something fast and fun that wasnt rediculously expensive to run.

During this time, one of my mates joined the marines and was therefore looking for a quick sale on his rather nice 182 with both cup packs. it was put up for sale at £2500. I decided i wanted it and ended up buying it for £1800 (mates rates and it also needed to be gone that day)

So i purchased the car along with a days insurance and parked the car in my brothers garage....after spending about 3 hours giving it a full vallet and polish.

I insured the car yesterday and will be picking it up today.

anyway, im 26 and married, im from near york in north yorkshire.

Cheers, dave

Ok so got the car yesterday and in realy pleases with it. feels quick and drives nice and tight.

2 things i have noticed with the car is it has a slightly lumpy idle. strange as when you rev it it sounds sweet as a nut and it pulls like a train. just when its sat on idle it seems to tick over a bit lump? Not sure what this could be?

Also when you accelerate hard and change gear (mainly 1st to 2nd) there is a slight clunk. it sounds like its from the exhaust so could be an exhaust mount?

2 other things on my to do list are a bonnet respray as it is covered in stone chips. The other thing i plan to do is change the rear tyres. the fronts have just had brand new toyo proxes t1r's fitted but the rears are cheepo ditchfinders so i will swap them out for matching toyo's.

First impressions of the car are good and i think i will be chuffed with it once i get these bits n bobs done

cheers, dave

T1Rs are cheapos mate. . Lumpy idle? Has it had cams fitted? Get it on a RR to check the power.

Could be engine mount or gearbox mount David the clunking. Lumpy idle could be cambelt timing too.

i had toyo t1r's on my impreza sti and i rate them highly. they are the best road tyres ive tried for grip and performace. I have done some research on here and a lot of people are saying a slightly lumpy idle is normal? Can anyone confirm this?

As for the clunking i will take it too get checked out. its not bad its only very slight and when changing from 1st to 2nd. i also noticed today that if your in first or 2nd and set off , then let off the throttle before changing gear it does it sometimes aswell.

Any ideas? I was told it was an exhaust mount? How much am i looking at if its a engine/ gearbox mount?

Thanks, dave

Lumpy idle is definitely normal. Often wrongly diagnosed as a misfire.

Your clunking sounds the same as what my car had, mine ended up being the 'dogbone' mount bushings, replacing them with powerflex bushes is the way to go.

thanks for the reply. yeah ive read a lot about the lumpy idle and have put it down to being normal. the engine does run perfect and pulls like a train. its mainly on cold start then it subsides but is still not 100% smooth when warm.

As for the bushes, are they a big job? How expensive? My friend who i bought the car off is a mechanic and advised me it was an exhaust mount. although now its been mentioned, the noise does seem to coming more from the middle/front of the car.

Can anyone reccomend a specialist in my area? Thirsk yo7.

Thanks, dave

I'd say there are better tyres, but as a mid range tyre, I'd say they are best. Although I've recently put some Hankook V12's on the front of mine and they seem pretty good.
