In the last big install I did the customer had a very similar screen to that (last years I reckon) and it sounded pretty good. In general Alpine tend to be a bit better for sq but if the price is right I would go for the pioneer. I want to but dont have the cash atm.

touch screen eek.. very novel and easy to use, but the fingerprints.. grimey screen.. lots of cleaning

Yep, that was the problem I noticed. In certain lights it was very hard to see cos of the prints, but it did work well and the customer said it was reliable. Certainly a lot of functions on it anyway!

It´s just that a simular Alpine is way more expensive and it doesn´t have navi. But I like the feature of having a all in one unit to play dvd, tv and playstation ect. Have been looking at the Alpine 9835R but can´t realy decide. The Alpine is very nice, but it´s just a HU, if you know what I mean.

Think I wiil find and see/hear the Pioneer, I have Alpine 2 way component front and Alpine coaxial back and a sub in boot.......not the loudest but sounds very crisp and clear, so at the moment Alpine is leading;)

bloody hell

how much does that thing cost! looks expensive

(btw, rong forum! hehe)

I have the Pioneer 6500 DVD its touch screen and dvd mate its quality they only thing that lets the head unit down is the software on it, but to be honest my mate has a alpine unit and the software on that is no better. I think you get more for you money with the pioneer the sound and picture quality is excellent.

It will also play VCD and mp3 i certainly have no regrets buying mine.

Well just the way it works/Navigates, for example you if you put a cd full on mp3s in the unit you cant search all the songs and pick the one you want, you can only type in a number or flick through 1 by 1. The graphics also are not that great but i now download music videos and burn them to vcd looks well smart.

The other minor issue i have is the fact that the front of the unit comes of for securiety but pioneer to not supply a case to carry it in at the moment i am using the case from my oakley sunglases.

Dont let me put you off despite these little issues all in all its a very impressive peice of kit. As i say i have no regrets in buying it and am very impressed with it. If your looking at the Avic X1 its even better but was VERY expensive when i bought the 6500DVD i notice now you get get a really good price on it.

I say go for it you wont be sorry!! :D

Just had the catalouge from Alpine........The IVA-D300 (Media Station) is pretty awesome too, don´t have navi I know. But had a play with the pioneer and was surprised how slow it was in navi-mode.....Navi is not very important as I have a porteble Garmin wich does the job and is way faster than a "disc-System" So thinks the Alpine wins as it´s cheaper than the pioneer because of non-navi, and me think the qual is a bit better sound wise.......

Thanks for the info......:D

I have the 6400Dvd and I love it! Agree with Sport 172 above ref the lack of casE! very annoying although if you call Pioneer they will send you a standard face off case which while not that great is better than nowt! nothing like the nice leather pouch alpine give you tho!

I dont find the software too bad, although I dont have the navi yet. The point about skipping through tracks on mp3 is very true its a right pain in the arse! What gets me is that they have programmed the function cos you can get it to display of all folders on an mp3 cd and then you can touch the folder to play it....so why not be able to do that for tracks within a folder!! cant be that hard!

Apart from those minor things Pioneer is great, the touch screen is excellent and while yes fingerprints do of course happen, its not as bad as I expected and they give you a nice screen cleaning cloth which i keep in the front of the glovebox in the card holder so not a big issue! Good luck
