Piper Cams and Pulleys??

  clio 16v
i think some people on here have had the pulley's crack?? and for the fitting costs, apparently, the increase in performance is minimal.

that's Kent pulleys afaik, Piper are pretty good by all accounts... still, personally i'd go AWT, but then i'm biased!

save for 2.0!

i cammed and did loads to my old 1.8, and a 2.0 with an exhaust and panel filter will be just as quick, and still a pretty standard base engine to start working on when u get bored :)

Just out of interest really adam - Still think I will be getting a 172 lump dropping there next year ish!

wouldn't bother with the 172 lump, not as tunable imo... look how many tuned ones there are and how many can get a low 14? answer is not many... mind you they do have more power as std, but cam both engine and I'll bet that 9 times out of 10 the F7 will be quicker.

They should be good and ideal for slamming in when you get a cambelt change done to combine labour costs.

If they didn't do anything then Ben wouldn't be doing his own cams and people like Hillpower, BB and Ktec wouldn't offer them either. Head work helps though and gains are better with head worked on. Can always get a cheap or free head worked on whilst running on current set up, fit cams etc in that and then swap over when time is right. And if you find a 2.0 bottom end in mean time that would be even better. That's exactly what I am doing. And as its in stages over time its more affordable.

1.8's do not respond as well as 2ltrs, most people who buy just cams/verniers are usually disappointed.

The problem is that the 1.8 has very mild cams as std, and to get the power out of it you need to rev high, but cams which can hold VE at high rpm's use alot of overlap, couple that with the std inlet manifold and you get a car which basically wont idle.

So, you can get power out of the 1.8, but you'll be more than pissed off with a car that wont idle.....at all.

ive got the piper cams on my valver, with kent pulleys, i cant really comment as ive never driven a standard valver to compare, but mine pulls really well after 4k

No really a fair comparision of the engines is it seeing as they reside in completely different shells...
