Placing Axel Stands

  White Sti Hatch
Right never bothered using these before but i rents got me a set so what i want to know is where to place them on the underside of a Mk3 as i havent got a clue at all and dont exactly want to guess and end up with a stand through my floor.

Couple of pics of the under side and where im asuming you could place a stnad....so good idea bad idea ??

Do Mk3s have two chassis legs running back from the front like a Mk2? Thats always a good place to stand the front on them, rear you can go either the rear beam or jack the beam and stands on the sills if you need to drop the axle etc.

And you should always use stands if your getting underneath it.

I'm a bit of a tw*t because I get lazy and CBA with stands which makes me a total moron. When it collapses and flattens my face I'll probably think twice.

Although thinking about it now I might use stands instead and not be so lazy :dead:

Unsure about the Legs running to the rear mate are there on near the sills or further under the body ??

As for the rear in the pic the Round Tubing fixed to the rear beam alright for a stand as the rear beam itself is to wide to sit properly in on the stand

Ill go have a look in a bit, as for the rears would it be ok to rest the Tubular support on the stand ??

The chassis legs should be about 10 inches or so behind the sills.

mine made nasty noises with stands under them, Havent used them since.

I Use blocks of wood on the jacking points so that the stand clears the sill lip

I had 3 Mk2s and have never had any problems jacking/standing using the sills. Done it on every one i've worked one mine and others.

As above
wouldnt use the sill as my sills have been mangled from previous owner and seem to crumple if you use trolley jack or anything other than the satndard jck

i'll vouch for that too. use the front subframe, where it mounts to the body at the back where the axle joins the body if you can. the rear beam isn't the best place as it's used as a anti rollbar and is designed to twist(the antirollbar is inside it)

I still don't get how people jack up the mk2 then put axle stands under

But you can't as the jack is on the bit where you'd put the axle stands!

so thats where they go! That bits always looked weak to me.

been fine the many times my cars have been in the air. Damages the underseal though if your not careful.

Just get a tin of it and put some more on if your bothered about rubbing it off, theres no way you won't rub some off using stands there. I just smudge some more back on after, halfraulds do a big tin of it for about £3.
