Please help me...

  Engles Mummy
Hi All,

Right I'll try keep this as simple & as short as possible;

I'm looking at buying Medhi's Car (or ChrisK's old car) now the deal at the moment stands at - I swap my cup (standard) for his car.

I met him today at Bluewater and the car indeed looks great, sounds great and is quick. But It wasn't as fast as I thought even though it did still have it's interior in.

Ok here are the problems I've got buzzing through my mind -

1. Will the car be reliable? (thats the biggy!)
2. If it breaks down who the hell is going to repair it? & at what cost?
3. Is it worth me getting rid of my cup for a 2000 plate t/b ph1?
4. If I do get it - I'm going to have to get a cup spoiler for it, 172 rear bumper and may put my Ragnotti on it...oh and a new steering wheel! Will a 172 ph2 steering wheel fit?

ffs I'm lost!

Any advice or help will be much appreciated!

Thanks, Adam

i would keep my own car and modify that to my hearts content (may cost you more but at least you will know where you stand).

if your car is reliable why take the risk of buying an older faster one which tbh sounds as if you werent that impressed with. ("But It wasn't as fast as I thought even though it did still have it's interior in")

also would you be able to afford to run a car which will have that horrendous fuel consumption? or like you say fix it when the engine poss packs in early due to the endless hammering and v heavy maintenance mods?

all IMO

Better the devil you know imo . Sounds like you have your doubts or you wouldn't be asking !

If you've never had any major problems with your car i'd stick with yours .

I was impressed but I weren't blown away by it!

The car has great potential to be something amazing; I know I could turn it in to a right monster. But it's just can I depend on GDI's work or is it bound to die on me? I do not doubt GDI's work at all but I doubt how reliable a T/B can be.

I've always wanted a T/B car pushing a lot of power, but I never fancied spending 6k for it. Now I've got the chance to swap my car for one, I may just flip a coin or something lol

Have to agree with whats been said Adam .. you know your cars history.. you only know what you have been told about this car and like MrBillyuk says it is better the devil you know :) unless of course you have paperwork for all work that has been done to back you up if anything goes wrong ??

Why it being sold the new owners not wonered it long? Especially if there ownly buying another Clio not like they need a family/cheaper car suddenly.

It should be reliable no idea what exact bits were used or GDi'd willingness to warently there work (i'd imagine they would be) clutch is likly to be worn or go though so that somehting to think about but thats not a huge cost realy. If it ( as i think it was) used a proper commonb ECU then there should ne no problems fixing it might even be easier than stock dpending how well the work was done.

If its worth it is down to you personally its worth £5k from what I think of it.

Problem with trying to get an opinion on here is that everyone has their alliances....... some to YS some to GDI some Angelworks... etc.

Its a tough one, but if you want it, and the work is warrantied then go for it, you only live once.

I'd go for it....getting alot of power/good all round package for a straight swap....I'd be tempted to put your seats/cage in and strip it though

Yea that’s what the plan is. Strip the ph1, my seats, exhaust and cage.

GDI hasn't got any warranty/guarantee on it so there goes the free service lol

Barely no one wants to touch this car, not sure why. It's been well looked after, drives fine, handles well and is a good all round car...but so is mine. This is why I’m still undecided.

I'll keep you posted!

I'd keep your own. then when u mod it. It'll be your own mods style and taste not someone elses. You may beable to make yours go even better than his!!!!
