plip not working

Hi all, I have recentcly bought a Renault clio 2006 and the central locking will not work via the plip, it locks via the n/s and the button inside, I have bought a new plip from ebay and tried reprogramming myself to no avail - is it something im missing , help please

I assume you've tried a new battery in your original plip?

i treid the battery from the new plip in the old one, to no avail
