Poor engines!

This reminds me, there is a guy at work who's had a 1997 Mondeo from a year old. Now on 160k, never had a cambelt and he can only ever remember getting it serviced once in 2006.

Still the thing lives. I suspect internally it looks something a little like those..lol

Crazy they ran for long enough to get that bad!

A friend of mine at uni bought a montego, and when we went to drain the oil it wouldnt come out it was so thick, but after warming it up and a flush it did so it was certainly nowhere close to those ones on the link in terms of how bad it was, that was about 40K it had done without an oil change IIRC, and was only a piddly little 1.3 engine so would have had a hard life carrying that much weight about.

Flol shocking some of them. Picture 21 reminds me of when i removed the rocker cover from a 1.3 escort eclipse. Took hours to remove it all!!

Few engine flushes later and fresh oil done it the world of good.

My daily has done about 30k without a service purely down to the fact my brother never serviced it when he had and I haven't done one on it yet. After seeing this.. I know what I will be doing Saturday, I feel rather guilty considering the 106 gets one every few thousand or when I start competing after a few events.

Iirc, wasn't that 1.3 engine a Honda sourced/co-built unit? Probably the only reason why it survived! :)

  Many.
You can guarentee if any of us tried to do this, it'd blow up afer 10k, but I too have seen it too often.

One of the best is from a Cherokee V8, oil was so thick we took the sump off to drain it, obviously due to this it ended up having a full engine rebuild, was bloody expensive when you consider how cheap oil is these days.
