Poor Mans Macro

  182 & Porsche 986
(or ladies.. )

Before spending a few amount of pounds on a macro lens i thought i'd have ago at diying it.
I've got my 50mm prime lens and stuck it on the wrong way so it turns in into a cheap macro type lens!

Looks weird and its bit scary having the wrong end of my lens exposed!

Gives surprisingly good results, everything is manual settings, even had to make use of the aperture ring on the lens, also makes all the setting backwards. There isn't any focusing (the manual focus ring doesnt work either) you just have to sort of move around until it looks ok!
heres some results.

Excellent work, surprisingly good results from such a bonkers solution as well! I love the softish edge to it all, works nicely with the subjects you've chosen.

Close Up Filters are also a pretty good (and cheap) way of doing macro with a 50mm.

Fun results.

The Nikon lenses have the benefit of the aperture ring. With Canon, you have to set the aperture then remove the lens with the camera still on.
