Porsche 911 GT2 RS Ring Lap

I was talking to a mate earlier about this.

It's absolutely mental to think that road cars are now only 36 seconds off of Stefan Bellof's unofficial record, and 21 seconds off of his 'official' one. I know the layout's not the same these days, but even so, holy shitballs.

Yes - Anything sub 7mins is pretty damn special.

Don't get me wrong, I love watching these 'ring laps but surely we're getting to a point where the risk is becoming unacceptable?

If something were to go wrong with the car or the driver were to make a slight error on one of these sub7 laps then they're presumably just dead?

It's a high probability that death would occur yes.

Nah. I think it's safe to say the driver would potentially sustain injuries, but the majority of these types of car are exceptionally strong, and also have cages alongside other safety equipment. It's not like it's a Saxo fitted with a big engine for example. Lol - don't ask why I've used that as an example either, it just came into my head.

If you look at the speeds, they're in 3 figures yes, but in a lot of the places they're still not travelling exceptionally fast if you get me? The cornering speed they're carrying is however phenomenal, so this is where a big majority of the laptime is made.

It's only the main straight that they're touching the 200mph region.

That's the appeal. Living life on the edge.

I don’t think this record will last long

Won’t be long until Vergers is back out in a Radical

Very impressive though

Talking about this with some friends the other day. Mental lap, but more impressive is they had two drivers and two cars, all on Pilot Cup 2's, and both drivers/cars were getting under 6:50.

Staggeringly fast, and consistent, and on road tyres.

I get what you're saying, but a Radical ain't exactly a car you can pop to the shops on though is it!

I agree entirely mate. But it’s road legal and that seems to be all they’re interested in.

Michael is actually a friend of my dads so may see if i can gather what plans they have

In a roll caged Porsche with harnesses you'd at least have half a chance, but it could be a VERY BIG accident.

I must be getting old, as much I appreciate and love fast cars I find these videos really boring. I got 23 secs in and just started skipping.
Very capable car though.

There’s a lot of political s**t going on when it comes to the ring.. I’d imagine the driver will almost definitely be German.
