Possible gearbox fault - 172 Ph2

Hi, I have a question regaurding gearboxs as im not sure if mine has gone or not!

I was changing from 3rd to 4th at low revs not giving it any at all and once changed into 4th i lost all drive!! No bangs clunks or anything! Now i cant get any drive in any gear. When the engine is started if i rev the engine in any gear selected with the gearstick the speedo goes up and if i put my foot on the clutch it stops as you would expect it to.

From this vague description is this likely to be an internal box fault or something like drive shafts, linkage or a selector fault?

i believe the 172 box suffers with some sort of circlip fault on the diff..... i'll try and find some threads for you
