Possibly the most original 205 GTI around

If it was a 1.9 it would be snapped up straight away. Low mileage or not that car won't appeal to most collectors.

Missing a proper fuel cap, thats money off straight away !

I've had a soft spot for these cars ever since the guy who lives in the house behind mine scared me as a kid revving it as i went by on my tri cycle.

That looks mint and if it is 20k mileage its unreal. 4k is well worth it if it was the 1.9 :(

The guy i talked about still has his and it looks mint, he rarely gets the car out the garage but when he does its spotless. Its red too which i think was one of the best colours for a 205 GTi.

Are they really that good? never driven one properly always wanted one tho. Almost bought one a few years back that needed some tlc but got outbid. Seriously considerd one before buying the clio but wanted something newer/comfortable for the long traveling type drives. IF the situation changed tho and i could have a more raw car would a gti be the way to go?

Good fun and superb to drive, underpowered by todays standards, if I had another it would have to have a Mi or GTi 6 Conversion.

Id go that route too, i had a 1.4 205 for my first car and did my lessons in a Diesel so im familiar with the car but not th GTI. Have very fond memorys from that first car but then everyone does. Whould you say there as much fun as the clio Rich?

Rose tinted glasses these days, would need to drive one back to back with the Clio - the 182 was the 205's replacement and I did not miss the GTi once the Clio was delivered. The 205 was a great car to drive, as fun yes, and ultimately more rewarding to drive as most of the time it felt like it wanted to bite you in the arse. Showed it's age in the tlc it needed and lacked the overall pace and power the latest breed of hot hatches have. I would choose a 306 Rallye or 106 GTi over one now.

WTF
It has its orginal 1.6 gti rims with the mxv michelin tyres from the factory

I bet that perfomance of those tyres is outstanding :D

There was one on a repeat of top gear at the weekend. They did a like race of old vs new and a 205 1.9 gti got whipped by a 206 gti and they aren't exactly quick.

I saw a 1.9 in miami blue recently looked much nicer than that colour.

I always wanted a 1.9 in Miami blue or Sorrento green. I love those two colours.

Rich's Miami Blue one made me tent :approve:

Your missing the point - some concours geek will get moist that they can put them on when they get to a show !

Love these cars.

My friend had an MI16 conversion but it was just a money pit and something was always going wrong with it.

I'd have one as a trackday toy or something.

as said before the Miami blue was the best colour! And they are not the original wheels for a 1.6, they are from a 1.9?

1.9s on it in the pics - sounds like he has the original tyres and wheels being stored for factoryness !

  meriva vxr! really ;-)
Brings back memories of my first "proper car" - At 18 years old i got an 88 f reg 1.9gti - i remember paying £1600 tpft on the insurance with 1 years ncd and this was back in 1996! Damn i spent a fortune on that car - I read earlier about the only way was mi16 conversion - i'd disagree on this one...

The 1.9 engine was an 8v - the mi16 was 16v and a s**t load heavier! Due to this i went the tune the original... head ported polished/bottom end lightened balanced/performance cams - manifold back exhaust -no cat needed! I remember running below 7 secs on the 0-60 sprint at the peugeot sport day as no-one could believe it from the original engine, but can't remember my 1/4 times although this is where the 16v conversions came into it! - before people comment standard ones were doing it in the low 8's against the book time of 7.8 if i remeber correctly!

Handling - to date the 205 was the best car i've driven handling wise, yes the steering was heavy - no power steering and i did put 16's on it! - but the feedback and confidence you got cornering was amazing - clio is close but you still get that light what the hells going on feeling when you really push it - 205 was just there - until the back whipped round on you ;-)

anyway nostalgia over, where's the tissue to wipe my moist eyes...

Its the rare non sunroof ones that are worth the money.

Hanlde really well, 1.9 is similar to valver pace.

Non sunroof is only popular for those looking for a track day car - does not command a premium in any other way.

I still love them, hence the one I just bought.

Handles better than the 182 all day long, it's not about speed in these it's all about the experience. Seriously fun and still pretty quick a to b.

And the top gear old v new thing was pretty daft as the Gti 180 didn't replace the 205 gti, the 106 gti did...
