power cable to batt help...

  Clio 1.6 16v 2003

told the best place to go through is the bonnet release grommet (sp)

where does it come out in the bonnet?

dont want to drill a hole at all.

Passenger side, about middle and about 2 1/2 foot up behind the sound proofing. I would suggest taping the wire to a screwdriver/coat hanger to guide it through the hole. comes out behind the sound proofing inthe engine bay and is easy to get to if you remove the coolant reserviour(dead easy only 2 bolts)

really easy to find if you look into the footwell 1st you will have a better idea whereabouts in the bulkhead it comes out. Basically pull the heat insulating trim away from the bulkhead a bit and reach down behind it feeding the cable through the grommet is easy. on the 172/182 you have to pop the PAS resevoir off its bracket 1st to do this not sure if its in the same place on a 1.6.

found it but it comes out below the wiper resevoir, the grommet is tiny tried to push the wire through and it impossible.

cant hardly see grommet form th engine as its virtually covered by stuff above which cant be removed, there no heat insulating/ sound proofing around it either so it must be different to a 2.0ltr

Are you sure you are looking at the same place? the washer bottle is under the plastic wiper scuttle trim. you need to look at the part of the bulkhead directly behind the engine, on the right handside when looking from the front of the car (passenger side) should be about halfway down.

Yeah, you need to be looking about 3 feet down and one foot across to the left from the washer bottle

looks like you are following the correct cable, if its hard to get the cable through get some welding wire or a metal coathanger poke it through from the inside then attatch it to the wire under the bonnet then pull it back through.

tried that too, pierced the rubber went through but the cable keeps coming off, is there anyother way through!

then dash is of at the moment to..

did you use a piece of welding rod/hanger wire ? if so push through from the inside then poke the end through the eye on the power cable and fold the wire/rod back on itself(using pliers if its too stiff to do by hand) then pull it back through it shouldnt be able to come off if you do this.

i made a separate hold under release cable mangaed to pull it through but should i put some silicone round it in case of water ingress?

Made a hole where, in the bulk head? Id put a grommet it (difficult with the wire through) and then seal it. No grammet meant the wire might wear though against the bare metal, and then you got a fire on your hands

once youve actually got the cable in position then some silicon sealer isnt a bad idea if you want to be doubly sure no water can get in, tbh if its a really snug fit you should have a problem anyway.

what i usually do is peirce the rubber grommet, then get a pair of needle nose pliers in there, to open up the hole whilst u push the cable through, then get a mate to grab the other end and start a tuggin!
