Power loss above 5k RPM 182

I'm having a strange problem with my trophy.

Basically its just had the timing set (properly) and I've just booted the car for the first time

It feels above 5k rpm the car doesnt want to rev as free as it should, it does this all the way to 6800rpm, then it gets a little burst of power just before it clips the limiter

I know this is strange, I did first point my finger at the cat, but then there wouldnt be an extra burst of power for 400rpm right at the top end

Any ideas?

My mate did the timing, he works for renault and used the propper renault tool, it was previously 1 tooth out on the inlet side and it had no mid range, its smoother now but still not right

Yes you can check timing without removing the belt however to change the timing it has to be taken off, mine literally had the belt done 3k miles ago, just before I bought the car but it appears they never did it right

If you want to change your timing and havent done your belt then its going to be worthwhile doing the full change and make sure they use the propper renault timing equipment

Its still pulling hard dont get me wrong, just random how it feels like it wants you to grab the next gear then all of a sudden a random burst of power for 400rpm,

I was there when the timing was done, my mate even showed me before and after of the timing marks, how they didnt line up and after he was done it did, its certainly a lot smoother on the mid range and when the fueling changes at 5krpm its a lot smoother, previously it had nothing then all of a sudden you got the big hit at 5krpm

I'm very confused about the whole thing :-/

there's 3 tools

the pulleys are fully floating, if the belt teeth have been used to set the timing in any way, then it is wrong

I think you're taking the OP's post a little too literally.
He's not the one who changed the belt, so he may not be as well informed as the person who did the work and may have just made the assumption that it was one tool and not several.

I've done them before and I have alll the renault tools and I know that you dont use the teeth to set the timing, however that doesnt rule out the possibility that it could have been a tooth out before it was changed.

I'm just texting my mate now and he said that he also used the tool to lock the pulleys and crank, he's going to have a look at it this week and plug the computer in to make sure the ecu is reading everything it should

you should hope its not the cat (it wont be byt the way) £2200+vat from renault.

If it was it would be getting a de-cat ;-)

We're thinking possible lambda fault

Also I'm running on 95 octane fuel will this make a significant difference to power delivery?
