Power : weight - Ratio

Anybody know the power : weight ratio on a standard 172?

More to the point, what do they weigh?

They weigh 1059 kg i think.



172 devide 1059 = 0.16241737

times that by 1000 = 162.41737

162 bhp per tonne

mk1 is 1035kgs

mk2 is 1035kgs (but Im sure thats wrong)

cup is 1021kgs

power for all is 167bhp so;

mk1 is 161.4 bhp/ton

cup is 163.6 bhp/ton

umm so my Golf 2.0l 16v should be working out at around 176 brake per ton

Mk2 with ABF from mk3 2.0l 16v in a 1.3 shell Fully stripped out weighing around 850kg

Ive not done the conversion yet, still trying to find an engine but at least ill keep up with a 172/182

Only 850kgs???? What is that includin the weight of the engine, gearbox and surely youll have to strengthen the chassis? What about brakes too?

give or take might bump it to around 950 actually. . .

The brakes used are 280mm off a G60/mk3

Oh and the bhp isnt 172. 172 is the PS figure so the bhp figure will be nearer 170.

I want BBs 172 + turbo.....that sounds better to me, but who on earth Id get the traction down on a cup with that kind of power would be scary...Id be on first name terms with the local tyre company as Id probably be buying a new set every other week!!!
