Premium or Standard!?

  182 Sport 2.0I
Hey!

I recently bought a 182 and i have to say, im loving it so god damn much! Geezus! That second gear is a killer! But, could anyone advise me on which type of fuel to use!? Manual recomends 97 - Premium but i have heard so much crap about the differences.

Read a great review about the two:

But what do you guys run yours on!?

I run my sport on shell 95 ron, it spends most of its time sat it traffic so I don't think I'd see the benefits.

  Audi S1
Used to run on normal but started using v-power and getting an extra couple of mpg from it so have used it ever since

  Scirocco GT 2.0
My car recommends 95 or 98 so I use 95 on the whole now, but every 3rd of 4th fill up I wack some Super in and give it a boot, keeps things nice a clean

Always ran my old 182 on Sainsburys super which is BP ultimate, car never put a foot wrong.

People who don't run their car on the recommended fuel for it are IMO cheapskates.

TBH if Asda did super i'd buy from them as both Sainsburys and anywhere that sells super/vpower are in the next in the two towns so it means a 6 or 8 mile round trip for fuel.

i always fill mine with high/super ect. Most of its 95+ron.

Dont really notice the difference tbh might just be me though

  Audi TT 3.2 V6
Ive been running on Vpower/Tesco 99Ron for 6months or so. Cant say ive noticed a great deal of difference i do however run the car with a 98ron map so figure its for the best if i stick to the good stuff.

Been using Bp ultimate and V and the weak 95 ron. Saying that though I cant find any differences. The car runs fine on every start up with smooth idling.

i'll put it this way, all the cars at work lambos, ferraris, porsches, bentleys, astons etc (40 in total!) all have normal put in them

After a full tank of BP Ultimate today, it runs the same, no power different. Slight difference in the idling, no more dipping if you notice that with yours. But appart from the 6P per litre difference and the nicer smell to get high on, its just the same.

v power here. it is more expensive but it 'lasts longer' so to speak.

I get the same mileage from £30 of v power that I do from £30 of "normal" unleaded from the shell garage, so I figure, I may as well put the premium stuff in, as it seems to take longer to burn so compensates for the extra cost.

also idles better and runs much better when it is cold. no actual power difference, that is simply nonsense claims that make people go out and buy it. but yeah, it definately runs smoother with less almost like a kangeroo-ish affect but not as bad as opposed to normal unleaded when cold.

anyway my opinion is, use v power - makes no difference - you get less but it burns slower. no harm in it.

Can't really tell any difference in performance or mpg between the two so 95 for me and save the cash.

Off your head!

There will only ever be a 7p difference between unleaded and the V power.

A 50 litre tank at 88.9 (regular) will cost you £44.50.

The v power at 95.9 will cost you 47.95.

For the difference of 3.45 im sure most will just use the V power...

In other words... dont waste your money on premium :approve:

+1

You pay more for it to start with and unless running a big powered turbo'd motor or something with a lot of work done to it.

Your probably wasting your time :(

Gains will be minimal probably, it may all be in you head.

You would need to get car on a RR on each fuel to confirm though.. ;)

Presuming thats because its cheaper and its all about profits with driving expereince days.

What did petrol do Yozzasport use in their cars?

  ph2 iceburg 172
i would say the premium petrols do last longer, i put asda sh*te in yesterday and the car drunk it, didnt last much time atall

and im not sure if its valid but i did watch 5th gear when they tested performance diesels on a rr and showed that they can increase the car for up to 8hp, not sure if its the same for the petrol tho

There was an interesting vid on utube actually off 5th gear which compared a boggo 1.4 clio a 2.0 "sporty" hatch and a turbod jap car

think the 1.4 gained nothing, the 2.0ltr gained 1 or 2 ponies and the jap car got a reasonable amount(10-20)

Great feature in last months TRC mag regarding all this, 4 pager job.

Puts a spanner in the works for the doubters of high octane fuels ;)
