there are so many of these on here, but to make it easy for you;
sand down the whole area to be painted so that it is glass smooth. do this using different grades of wet and dry paper, the bigger the number the smaller the grain ie 1200 is very fine.
next wash the area with soapy water to remove all contaminents. then wash the area with something like white spirits as this will remove any oils and waxes left by the soap.
once this is done its time to apply the primer. the key in this is to take your time, itll be worth the wait if you do. apply 2 or 3 coats of the primer, allowing each one to dry fully and then sanding it down with very very fine wet and dry, this ensures you have a fully smooth surface with no lumps that will show up in the paints finish.
alloy this to dry for a bout 24hrs or so. then add 3 or more coats of your paint. again sanding down each layer as you go. you must ensure that the layers are fully dry obv because if you dont you will scratch away the paint.
once you have left it again, apply 2 coats of clear lacquer. you do not sand these coats down. but only lacquer if you are 100% sure that the paint job is a good un, if not, apply another coat of paint.
think thats everything, add to it people if i have left something out...
