im after the best software to make presentations, have to give on on thursday and was going to just use powerpoint but thought id ask you lot to see if there was any software that would totally blow them away?

powerpoint is easy and simple to use.
best off searching the web for a free download

Powerpoint is good... from experience an audience would prefer good content presented well, rather than loads of flashy animations moving all over the screen.

You can make some really professional looking presentations in it and is the standard program to use I think, every presentation I have been to has been in PP.

Simpler is better mate - just get a decent template so it is laid out well, concise sentences, logical structure... bob's your father's uncle!
