Probably a dumb question

hi guys, i know shat all about cars, but was wondering - what is a de-cat?

i assume its something in place of the cat converter? but what is it? can you buy them? or have to make them?

ive seen some people say theyre getting a de-cat box, and some saying a de-cat pipe?

wtf are they?

thanks a lot

yeah, de-cat goes in place of the cat converter. its just a tube in most cases. they can be bought for most cars, but as far as i am aware they are only legal for cars on the road that are k reg or older.

i dont think they are illegal but if they are on a newer car it is more likely to fail the MOT on the emissions test. this can be countered by replacing it for the MOT, as long as it hasnt rusted into place!
