Problem-maybe overfueling or variable valve timing ?

  182 cup
Basically ive had my 182 for a year now with no problems, 83k on the clock, always serviced with good oil , plugs done etc, had a cambelt kit fitted 5000 miles ago aswell by a Renault specialist.

The problem I'm having has taken me off the road for a month now, have had it in a garage for 3 weeks and he couldn't find the problem.

The car will not keep its revs up as, like i'll start it and it will instantly drop revs down from a grand until it slugs itself and dies on me, the car will only tick over if I keep it above 2.5k revs and will stall on me if it drops.
At first the mechanic thought my injectors maybe be knackered , this wasn't the case as I had them tested and they are still spraying great, all my sensors have been check and are fine , that's even ona Renault fault reader , doesn't show any problems tried t or 3 different readers.
all fuel lines etc have been checked, the pulse of the injectors checked, actuators have also been checked and are all fine.

Strange thing is it runs "averagely" good when i stuck a set of 1600cc injectors on it, not running great , but it runs ?

Running out of ideas now, I've heard a few people saying maybe its jumped a tooth on the timing ?

something to do with the VVT or dephaser ?

ANy help would be much appreciated,

Cheers,
Mike

No, VVT wont do that, even if you unplug the solenoid and drive around without it active.

Its not active at idle anyway.

Could be the cam timing itself, I would certainly get that looked at, its possible its slipped for some reason.

Yeah cheers , i'll get the cam timing looked at weekend, tis a shame was running perfect before this, Why does it still run half decent with 1600cc injectors in ? withmy standard 2.0 injectors in it won't run at all, and they've been tested and are mint ?

Yes it has been checked at 2 different shops , once on a Renault code reader and Once on a bosh reader, they both came up wiv lamda and a brake sensor , both have been replaced but hasn't solved the problem

Just find it strange that with the 1600 injectors in it will start but with the 2.0 ones it wont have it :s

If the cam timing has slipped enough for the VE to be wrecked, putting less fuel in would help it start.

Not saying its definately that, but it does fit what is happening.

Yes you was right about it skipping a notch on the timing, jumped 1 tooth, been quoted £420 for a new gear and actuator fitted, does that sound about right ?
