Problem with ipod 4G

I connect it to the pc it makes the sound but it does'nt show up on iTunes or My Computer. So i tried reseting the ipod while it was plugged in and as it reset itself it showed up on both iTunes and My computer but when it reset it disappeared again.

Anyone know what i can do to fix it?

try restarting ur pc - i have same problem and restarting my laptop works.

I tried that before and left the ipod plugged in. But then my laptop would not restart properly so i unplugged it and then laptop started ok but still had the same problem when it booted up
