Problem with standard immobiliser!

  Audi S3 225

I have got a problem with my immobiliser and keys for my Clio mk2 01 model. Recently every other time I get in my car to start it, before even putting the keys in i see a red dot warning light flashing, as I turn the keys to start the car it keeps on flashing red, plus the petrol light, battery light and oil light all stay on as the car tries to start but wont.

I have tried the spare key but it does the same thing, every time though I have ended up getting it to work in the end. I’m not too sure how, but I just turn the key and press the accelerator quite a few times, and sometimes the red light will go and the car starts. Or other times I get in the car and lock it then unlock it using the inside button the red light will sometimes disappear.

I have got the standard Reno immobiliser and no alarm, is there a way to turn it off through the fuses???

This is getting very annoying and is making my late for work every day, is my immobiliser dying or is there an easy fix, its still under warranty so there’s no worry in not getting it fixed.

Thx, Allan

Sounds like a duff immobiliser or your ECU is on its way out.

The ECU controls the immobiliser.

Take it into your dealer and tell him the problems.

Sounds like this happend to my mate, first there tried resetting the immobiliser and changed the battarys in the remotes.

After that there put it down to a duff ECU and when he got that replaced it sorted it, mind you it cost £250 odd because it was out of warranty.

This problem happened to me (mk 1 ph 2 16v) but on vague occurences. Basically, when the engine was run for a while and then stopped (like for petrol) it wouldnt start up again for at least 10-15 mins, which aint good if your sat in a petrol station :p I found that if i rolled the car forward slightly it started. It hasnt done it now since last summer, so maybe its the heat....

Its annoying prob tho.

lol keyser, I was stuck in a bus stop yesterday I got out to get money and was stuck for about 15 mins trying to start my car, not one person stopped to help me, grrrrr...

It wont start up full stop now, luckily I managed to get it home and its now stuck on my drive, Monday morning im getting the RCA round to look at it, and if possible get them to take it to the Renault garage.

Its still under warranty so they should fix it for free, also how long do you think they will take to fix it, I really need my car for Tuesday as I have work.

Thx

its a real pain in the ass, It nearly NEVER happens EXCEPT at petrol stations! I get so embaressed by it, frickin French slut :p

You tried pushing it slightly then starting it? I know you got a Mk2 but it might be the same fix for it. Anyway, dunno about the time for fixing it, depends on how busy the dealer is, but with all the ECU stuff they got etc they might be able to find the prob quick enough. I always thought it was due to stop and starts and it would work again after it cooled down. Might be a hot wire short or something

sounds similar to what happened to mine - sometimes worked, sometimes didnt and it was the transponder in the key that was damaged - they have to get new key and re-programme.

Keyser, only petrol stations funny that... I dont like shell stations, may do good petrol, but bad history. When I got my new clio back in october took in the local one to fill it up. filled up ok, went to leave, couldnt start it up. did all the usual lock it leave it etc.

anyway, called out the aa and he checked everything all ok couldnt find anything wrong engine was turning but cutting itself off. eventually found the problem was the phone mast in the shell sign, itd screwed my transponder on the starter. took it into the dealer (car 3 days old!) and they replaced it.

stupid thing was the way we fixed it, the aa bloke rang the control centre and another patrol had had a similar problem with a renault earlier that day someone else and they got that started by pushing it 200 mtrs down the road! which is what we did with mine to get it started...

so if you know anyone that cant start their clio in a shell (or texaco) garage tell em to push it down the road.

SHELL! It ALWAYS happened at a Shell garage!!! I thought it was just coincidence but I think there is a conspiracy at Shell against us. Maybe its to make us buy more chocolate/coke while we wait for it to start.....the truth is out there....

Its the biggest pain in the ass
