problems with computer MK3

ok folks i've noticed a strange but very annoying problem.

on my onboard computer i usually keep the screen on the RANGE screen and lately the number has been sticking for a while then all of a sudden changing!

I noticed that it was at 255 miles today and after around 40 mile it went UP to 283miles it happened previously only it went down not up. I've tried stopping and starting the car, locking the car etc the only thing I've not done is reset the counter, has anyone had this happen before??

It will vary depending on how you drive. If you are driving economically, of course it will go up, and you will be able to go further on what you have left.

yes mate but it sat at 255 miles for 40 miles then jumped to 283

example - i put petrol in and drove to work it didnt change one from 306miles - i drove home and only when i pulled up at lights it dropped to 255 i then drive to tesco to get food and it changed to 283 whereas normally it would change every mile etc
