PS3...Is it worth it?

  Civic Vtec y0
Was thinking about pre-ordering a PS3 from Game to sell on eBay. They are opening at mid-night so I would get it then and stick it straight on eBay.

Do you think its worth it? ie. how much do you think they would sell for? What kind of prices did the Wii go for?

Cheers

Waste of time buying to sell on as it's more than likely that people will be able to walk in to any game shop and buy one without much trouble. Lots of stock available for the UK.

Looooads of stock available for release day. Dont buy to sell on ebay, you'll be dissapointed.

Pal enabled systems from japan/ us are already for sale, and going for less than uk release price.

Are the UK versions not crap as they are missing the "emotion chip" which means you cant play older PS1 / PS2 games.

correct, they are not crap:rolleyes:

you want to play old games then use your ps2 or just play using the software emulation on the ps3.

not sure what the hangup is on this ps2 thing, its just something for people to moan about, its like upgrading to broadband and then complaining because you then don't have to use dialup

Don't buy at launch. Sony and Uk retailers are crapping themselves because where as the 360 and Wii sold out within 12 hours of pre-orders being available hardly anyone seems to be pre-ordering the PS3. They have loads left that haven't been allocated.

The price is bound to be cut not long after launch as happened with the Xbox 1 so hold on to your money for a few months.

the reason is because they have something like twice the launch units as any other console launch and its out of a lot of peoples price range.

i can't be arsed waiting for a price cut, i want one from day one, never have seen the reason to wait until something comes down in price, i'm not as excited about it then.

That sure is true about the price! You would have to be an absolute nutter to pay £425 for that! I think most people are holding off for a price cut.

I'm buying on release day, I'm sure the initial price cut will not be worth delaying my purchase for. The PS3 will still play PS2 games but I can't say I'll be planning on using it for that. My 360 plays original Xbox games but they look crap in comparison so I never bother.

£425 is not a bad price for a games console and a BD player, I think it's excellent value. Yeah it would be great if it was on sale significantly cheaper but I could say that about most electronic items I've bought. My 360 with a HD-DVD would have cost me £410 and that's without wireless connection and with 40gb less storage space.

why would you, my xbox 360 cost me the same amount 18 months ago if i include the hd-dvd addon i got?

the price hangup on the ps3 is so over exaggerated.

exactly, finally someone with some sense!

I personally never pay ps1 games on my ps2, so if I brought a PS3 I would just keep the ps2 around incase I get a craving for the old stuff.

Yeah backwards compatibility is a load of hype and nothing else.

I never did it on my PS2 or 360. The older games just looked too crap and I had already played them to death.

I dunno why everyone is so keen on it as it just pushes up the prices of consoles. It was the PS2 owners that talked it up the most and are moaning the most about it now on the PS3.

Jesus if you are finding yourself with the time to play old outdated games then what does that say about the catalogue of decent modern games available for your flashy new next gen console? You might as well have just kept your old one and waited a few years before buying the new one at half the price!

Only game i ever went back to was Final Fantasy 7, ahhhh the good old days!

What do people mean when they say backwards compatiblity is available through software emulation? How does this work?

the same way the 360 does it. The PS3 was going to include the PS2 chip to run the PS2 games but its now going to run it using software whic will mean that not as many games will be supported at first ut more can be added through updates etc.

This is the same way the 360 does its backwards compatibility with the original xbox games and how people say the PS3 should have done it in the first place rather than adding extra cost with the ps2 'emotion' processor but i guess that was maybe the easy way out as they knew it would work?
