PS3 Power issue!!!!!

When i've finished with it i turn off the PS3 and leave the red light on on the front. So then all i need to do is press the PS button on the controller or press the I/O button on the front to power it up. Since two weeks ago, the day after i notice there is no red light on the front what i have to do is turn it off then back on again to get the red light back on.

Is this a new thing on one of the updates or is it a fault?

Yeah the red light should always be on in standby mode when the plug is connected and powered at the wall.

i always leave it in standby mode with the red light on, but since 2 weeks ago it powers off and i have to turn it on from the back

Leaving it with no mains power will drain the CMOS battery much quicker, and basically f**k it up.

I would think.

No it wouldn't do nothing to it.

I have always turned my old fat one off at the back as sometimes the fan would kick in during the night and wake me up.

That one was an old original 40gb one and my new one you cannot turn it off without unplugging it. Silly design

ive had mine for about 4 years, 1 minor problem but not battery/power related and mines switched off when not in use.

Roy - if you know about this kind of thing you may be right, i have no bloody idea though!

Well, in theory I think it will reduce the life of the CMOS battery, but I suppose in practise it's not likely to be an issue. Either way, these devices are designed to be powered and left in standby. Probably uses about as much energy as one fairy light bulb on a Christmas tree.

BTW Richy, surely it was switching itself on during the night because you had automatic updates enabled?

Oddly enough no I didn't have that set on. It was weird I'd bring it upstairs to stream some films from the of downstairs and after turning it off the fan would kick in randomly whilst in standby.

Just turned the ps3 off an hour or two ago and just noticed the red light has gone off, guess it's a fault

there's a new problem on the PS3, it keeps powering down by itself. Past few days it started. While playing it will turn itself off with no red light on the front. I flick the switch on the back to get the red light on i then press the sensor on the front to turn it on it shows the green light for a fraction of a second then shows no lights i then flick the switch on the back again to get get the red light on the front, press the power button on the front and it powers up ok. Some times i do this 2-5 times to get the thing powered up. Is the PS3 starting to die on me?

My launch-spec PS3 always used to get switched off at the plug, but when on standby you'd have a red light on the front.
Switch on from the pad or BR-remote.

Now I just leave it on, stockpiling electricity in caseof a strike innit. It never fires up by itself though, even just to turn the fan over.

Just blew on the back vent area, just in case was dust causing the issue. and came to power it up nothing so i switched it on the back a few times and it powered up. Very very annoying. Dredz mentioned last night about the fan (overheating) but i havent played on it yet today so can't tell you any more than you know

Nah he's only messing . Playing on MW3 past 30 mins so far so good hasn't re booted

If I'm reading right, your PC keeps crashing, and your PS3 is now turning itself off. They're both in the same room, as you're using the same monitor for both. Sounds like a power issue to me. Are they plugged into the same socket?

Well it's finally dead. Playing MW3 and turned itself off. Pressed the switch on the back to get red light pressed the button on the front and the red light went off, repeated over and over again. Just won't power up. Disk inside too :(

Turn it off at the back, hold your finger over the eject button whilst you turn it back on at the back, this should put the fans on full whack and keep pressing the eject button, might stay on new long enough to get the disc out.

how technically minded are you mine did this and i opened it up and repaired it with a heat gun and some new heatsink compound its not that difficult. iv done mine a few times now :) all you got to do is gently heat the back of the two big chips for a while new compound and off to go. when its open the disc mech has a manual release to get your disc out

Yesterday tried about 50 times to get it powered up with no success . And left it for an hour and tried it first time and it powered up as normal. Tried it twice since then and no bother. No idea what's going on with it.
