Ps3

  Rav4
I will be acquiring US version PS3's in the new year.

Will provide prices and pics to show that it is authentic.

After saying I'd never buy the PS3 I have changed my mind because I really want to play F1 and GT HD. Hopefully the March 23rd release date proves to be true.

I was considering importing one but if the release date is due for March then I'll probably wait till then. Pics would be good.

i am off to the US in a couple of weeks, what are the downfalls of me picking one up and bagging it back?

is it s big mother? would i need the box?

will the games be region locked so will i need to buy only US games?

will any region blu ray play on them or again, only US ones?

thanks in advance

For now all games from any region should work although this may well change. You will be restricted to BR dvd's from the US.
It's also possible that online games may soon sense which country your PS3 hardware was intended for and only allow you to connect to the gaming servers of that country. America isn't such a bad option other than having to deal with the whining kids online.

It weighs a ton Dave, think of a 360 with it's powerbrick and you are almost there. Pics here: http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showpost.php?p=2327298&postcount=18
hmmmm, sounds like it may be a harder task than i thought, wonder how much it would cost to ship it over here from there if i bought it there and shipped it back.

would probably get done for import tax and vat though unless i lied about what was in it.

It'll cost you around £400 to import a 60gb console to the UK (£90 max import charges), if you travel light you'll fit it into a case without any problems.

lol, have you seen the way they throw those cases around!

it would have to be all accessories in the case and the main unit in a rucksac if i was going to do it i think

Dave the key would be to take your suitcase to Lee's workplace. make a mold from one of his 36. Put the mold inside your case and then fill your case with expanding foam. This would then create a perfect PS3 importing device. ;) Mwahaha. Just means 1 more bag to carry and might look a bit dodgy if you get stopped lol.

Irish price was announced today, EUR630 for the 60Gb model. It's all but confirmed that it will be £425 in the UK, and we won't be getting the 20Gb model anytime soon, whilst they can fleece early adopters only the "Premium" 60Gb version will be available.

The good news Dave is that apparently demand for PS3s has slowed significantly in the US...

It's a good job you don't like the Wii because you won't be finding one of those in a hurry!

makes me laugh that they spend so much time and money developing all the technology for the ps3 and 360 then spend 10 seconds deciding they'll still use gamepads for fps shooters when anyone thats seriously into fps will tell you mouse & keybrd is the only way to do it right, surely its not rocket science
played cod3 on a 360 and it looked the bollox, but controls were laughable compared to pc, its a no brainer lol

^^^^^^^^ Completely disagree. Playing COD 3 with a 360 pad is secnond nature to me now, so much so a keyboard and mouse seems laughable! All the controls you need are at your fingertips.

I used to play FPS on my PC, but got fed up with buying some games, only to find they wouldnt work as a particular driver isnt up tp date, games installing random spyware, having to buy a new graphics card every 3 months to play the latest games, and my firewall booting me out of multiplayer games on a regular basis (all on a so called 'high end' pc btw).

PCs are made for the internet and spreadsheets where they should stay.

For the best FPS experience you will ever have, Rainbow 6 on 360 live cannot be beaten, and the controls are such they would be too complicated on a keyboard.
