Quick Question

If im buying 50W and 40W RMS (200W MAX) components ideally what wattage output RMS amp do i want. The only 4x50W RMS amps i can find are VERY expensive - were talking £400 expensive here. If i was to use sommet like a 4x40W or 4x30W RMS amp would that be a waste buying 50w RMS speakers?

Same thing applies to a sub, is it better to get the output of the sub above or below the RMS of the speakers / sub?

You want the amp to have an RMS rating equal to, or higher than the speakers.

^ but not too much higher - try lower end alpine stuff. will u be using the 4 channel for fronts and sub? whats your budget - a decent 4 channel will defo cost at least £200

Want some 50W components for rear and 40W components for front, all alpine. They do a 4x35W RMS for £220, or 4x50W RMS for about £380, just trying to decide if its worth spending the extra

why do you want comps that can take mor power in the rear?!?! seems a bit strange!! if you play it so 40rms to front and 50rms to the rear - youl have an apualing sound stage!!!

Dont get ANY rear speakers - some of the best systems i have ever heard dont have any - not needed - spend it all on the fronts, then geta decent sub - thats all ul need!!

whats you overall budget and what do you already have?

Lower end kicker/alpline/ phoenix gold all under rate their products. I got a 4 channel 4x35rms kicker amp and this is running front 150w max phoenix golds and 330w max rears. sounds really clear and a lot better than a lot of the installs we did at halfords when i worked there. ideally you do want to match the rms of speakers and amps, if the signal is clear you can find that you can push a lot more power through than is actully rated on the speaker. try looking on ebay cos thats where i got mine. tend to go for a better make with a lower power rating cos they will sound better and eill do the job just as well if not better than some makes like splx and all that sort that have massive max power ratings but no quality or real decent sound

Basically i was gonna hev the 5.35" components int eh doors and the 6.5" components in the parcel shelf, an only planning on getting one 12" sub, as i want space in the boot.

I currently have 80W MAX 4" front 2way speakers, and 89W RMS 3 way 6x9s in the rear, all run off the HU, which has 4x50W max. Im gonna do a full boot install, i was told components in the back gave much better sound than the 6x9s and the 6x9s distort at about 60% volume from the HU.

Not looking to spend much more than £500 or so on the whole install, but obvously it depends on the money i have availabe at the time. That is to buy the full system cept the HU. Wanted a 4 channel amp running front and back speakers, and a mono amp running the sub

OK - firstly, PLS dont put ANY speaker in the rear parcel shelf - to be breif your sub will use the entierty(sp) of the boot as an enclosure - while the speaker in the shelf will do the same - after a month or so they will start to be ruined from the more power full sub. Also unless you set it us perfectly - the chances are you will will get bass cancelation issues (sub and shelf spkrs out of synk canceling each other out ) As well it will drag ur sound staging backwards - not good for SQ - unless you put a filter on them filtering high frequencies.

Spend the money you were going to on rears on fronts as well - say about £150 on fronts - DLS a5s i think - the dls comps with 5.25" mids, or cyrstal comps

Get a 4 channel amp - something along these lines

then get a second hand 12" sub - eg the RE SE12 in a ported box - should be able to get for about 110-120 ish

Cheers, was gonna make a thin box for the sub running along the rear seats (in the boot) wiht the cone of the sub sticking out into the boot, will only be a 12" sub.

Would preferably like to keep everything Alpine.

Am just a bit concerned about the midrange and high frequency noise in the back, or lack of, surely if i just have a sub in teh back thena ll i will heard is the bass if im in the back (obvously i wont be in the back, but my passengers will be.
