R.I.P Stuart Smith SNR, A BRIsca Legend

  Clio 172 Replica Ph2
Many of you might not of heard of Stuart Smith or even his sport,
Stuart Raced BRIsca F1 stockcars from 1965-1986 and won the world championship 6 times, 3 times consecutively, one of only 3 drivers ever to do this.

He was recently featured in the BBC 1 Series Gears and Tears which focused on the rivalry between two families.
To cut a long story short he was a Legend in every sense, he was never to busy to have a chat and felt so passionately for the sport, He helped to shape it into what it is today.

Stuart sadly passed away this morning (23rd December) from a heart attack aged 64.

R.I.P Stuart Smith, A TRUE racing legend

I don't have a moment's thought for the 'sport' but it's sad to lose anyone at this time of year, especially another competitor. RIP.

This "Sport" is not well known, in the 60's it was pulling in 40,000 strong crowds, now its more like 5,000 :( but Stuart was the Ayrton Senna of stockcars.
Which sports these days can you just walk into the pits and have a chat with the drivers unless your on their team, when stockcars are mentioned people always think of bangers, The F1's are custom built full contact V8's and Stu was the best driver out there ever.

To see his off track passion, this is the out takes from the BBC program, by all means watch the whole video, but Skip to 7.50 to see the passion stu had, always making anyone laugh
