R19 vs 16v



  Was a Clio 1.8 16v


Raced a R19 16v tonight, it edged forward as we were waiting for green so expected a flying start but i took off & noticed he rolled away from line so instantly halted my accelaration trying to get him to play.

He then floored it and he got about 3/4 of a car length ahead while i was at about 3/5grand in first. I planted it & over took him in while in 1st and we raced to about 90mph as i very slowly increased the gap from first gear on.

It was all in the 1st gear, rapid! :cool:

I had 2 passengers he had 1!

ive raced a tuned 19v up to !20, accelleration i had to back off a little, cus i was right behind him, but once into fifth gear they are hard to keep up with, his was lowered quite a bit and handled well, my car was tottally standard. i slowed down for an island, he went across it at 80! nutter!!
 


Ive raced one from lights, round a roundabout and down a dual carriageway and i was always on top!;) And after the roundabout gained 2-3 car lenghts. Both cars were standard from what i could see and i have two more in the car than him! Suppose its down to the driver at the end of the day.

hehe i raced my mates in my mums rt. was doing full throttle changes and there wasnt a lot in it to 70 but his is fuked so it doesnt really count..
 


the 19 16v phase 1 hatch weighs 1060kgs. thats the quickest varient of the 19 16v. this has a power/weight;

137/1060 = 129bhp/ton

clio 16v weighs 980kgs

137/0.980 = 139bhp/ton

the later phase2s can be upto 100kgs heavier

Jimbo; elabarate on ur theory of the phase 2 Clio weighing up to 100kg more than the phase 1 please. I thought the Williams weighed 980kg & the 16v 1040kg, cheers.

Yep ur right the Willy weighs 10kg more! Always thought it was less for some reason.

Id still like to hear Jimbo explain why he thinks the phase 2 can weigh up to 100kg more or does he mean the R19 phase 2 can? Do you mean ABS, Air conditioning, etc? Cheers.

The willy does weigh more than the 16v. Just think it has a bigger engine but everything else is more or less the same.
 


My 1995 Renault brochure quotes 1000kg for the Clio 16v, and I seem to remember that earlier ones were quoted as 975 and 980kg respectively for the Phase1 and early Phase2. The later Phase2 (i.e. the one that weighs 1000kg) had side impact bars, an airbag and more soundproofing than either the Phase1 or early Phase2.

My current 16v is a very early Phase2 (on a July 1994 L-plate), and from taking it apart I can see that it has less soundproofing and no side impact bars that my 1995 late M-plate regular Clio had.

So the Willy will also vary in weight - the lightest presumably being the Willy1.

Bloody hell! 20kg is nothing though. Spare wheel thats it! Yeah, ive always wondered why the willy was lighter but it isnt so it doesnt matter.
 


i was referring to the phase 2 19 weighing upto 100kgs more than the phase 1 19 16v. the chamades r the fat buggers!lol

Raced a 19 last night in Hayes, I was 3 up and so was he, I got a great start and he wasnt catching me at all, he gave up and became two headlights in the distance. My car is not that fast so his must be poo! This 19 was a phase 1 and he had his missus in the car, she must have told him to back off, but this is not the first time that i have done the a 19 off the lights and i have only raced two. Saying that i had a left hooker 19 which has been sold now, that was a french import and that kept up, I was told the french ones are faster for some reason, but i dont know if this is true. and it didnt have the bonnet vent either:confused:
