They're very noisy, it will sound like your wheel bearings are shot!

My son had them on a Pulsar GTiR, during a cold damp day he span and wrote the car off. There was no standing water and it was a gentle bend. He was in traffic and witness all said they were all travelling at the speed limit.

R888's are fine on the road, even in the wet (shock horror!) if the fleshy part controlling the car has a brain cell or two. Standing water is their only real weak point......that and stupidity.

If you crash on them in the wet you were driving too fast. No arguments. At all.

I've had Parada Spec 2 on two separate cars and both have been sketchy in damp conditions, strangely it's usually the back that goes first. Possibly not as warm as fronts? I also don't drive stupidly fast, bust this has happened at moderate speeds, usually on roundabouts. Might have been diesel, but the Pilots on my 182 never did this.

To be honest, if you drive like that, you dont need 888's, you need to remove the lead from your feet ;)

my ph1 spins up in 3rd on T1R's up hill ..to be fair to the OP they are pretty crap - better on track suprisingly! I think your best bet would be AD08s, no personal experience of them yet, but as a fast road / track alternative if you can't be arsed swapping wheels they seem like the ideal choice. Will let you know soon how they compare lol

I find that they are very noisy on road to. But for epic grip it's a price to pay mine are just about legal and they have done 16 runs on the strip and a long track day plus my enthusiastic road driving. I shall be running 888s from now on but I don't do to many miles as it's my toy now

got yoko paradas and they are really grippy in wet as well as dry.

wanna try ps3s instead? i can get them anytime for you mate

Imo i use my car on track and i found my t1rs good but out of corners they were s**t, same problem as on road, i want to b able to power out of a corner not wait to get grip. I thought 888s were a good choice but as i thought they may not last as long. I dnt drive like a dick as i think thats what some of you may think, i just enjoy driving my car and enjoy the power and handling but my let down is tyre grip and just wanted some advice :)

I got some Hankook V12's after T1R's and so far I'm happy. They don't have that roll that T1R's seem to have. Might be fun to have that on track but I don't want it creeping up on me on the road with curbs etc waiting to eat my wheels.

On another note, smooth driving (throttle and steering) trumps chucking it in and flooring it.

Had to get out in the car over the winter with all that snow about, only car I had at the time with the clio with R888's and I had no problem getting around. As long as your not an idiot in the car and drive to the conditions then you'll be fine, though they do wear out rather quick on the road!

I dont get why people have such issues with T1R's lol ...

Perhaps i am the only person on the forum with decent throttle control?

Speak for yourself you cornish pixie....;)

I've got a stack of T1R's as spares but Ive never really tried them. I'll let you have them if you want Dave...best cash price?
All you need to remember with any super dooper special tyre is that they won't defy the laws of physics/adhesion. Granted, bunging on 4 R888's onto a decent track set up car will allow you to do some daft dry cornering speeds but they won't save people from their own stupidity.

I shudder to imagine if all of a sudden R888's became cheap enough for all the speedhunting, Clio owning, just out of the BSM Corsa boiz to afford.....;)

  220 Trophy
Just to put my 2p in, I ran 888’s on my 200 on the road and track and in all weather and they were great, lets not forget they came as standard on the R26R. As previously mentioned they’re not great in standing water but just slow down and don’t brake suddenly.

I’ve been running 888’s on my track 172 and knew they were fantastic in the dry but took the chance of leaving them on (rather than swapping the road Parada Spec 2’s over) in the torrential rain at Brands a couple of Friday’s ago and I was very very surprised just how great they were in the wet also.

So my advice is, if you want to, keep them on all the time, just slow down for standing water. Theoretically they should also be ok in cold weather because of the soft compound they will grip better than a normal tyre which will have already gone hard.

  Discounted 1*2 parts
i drove my 200 for about 3000 miles with 888's on. They were very noisey but gripped like s**t to a blanket in the dry. I only drove them once in the rain and if you drove carefully they were fine but touch the acc pedal hard and your fucked!

Mine used around 1-2mm of tread in 3000 miles inc 2 track days.

  220 Trophy
Not wanting to sound argumentative but I gave mine the full beans around Brands in biblical rain and they were great, I was lapping R8’s and Exiges etc, probably more to do with the confidence they gave me than anything.

The common thread here is don’t drive like a wally with them on in the rain on the road.

Unless may be West Renault has the Hard compound, (which might explain the poor wet performance) 1-2mm in 3000 miles sounds low let alone with 2 track days. 1-2 mm per track day sounds about right to me on Medium compound.

I thought that 888's had a minimum temp and if they went below this they can crack or break up.

This is turning out to be a hard choice now. Do i just try them or just stick with t1rs or another tyre. I do love the t1r but my only downfall is front grip, back it brilliant around corners.

Just out of intrest how much do u want for them as it could result me just sticking with t1rs and geting other track wheels.

That's a big decision, I’ve used them twice now and apart from the higher wear rate have been happy as Larry, they really are that good!! But if you are doing high miles then would stick with the T1R's as a happy medium - but wouldn’t be as good on track......

Mine were Medium compound
Then you aren’t pushing hard enough!!!! (Only meant light-hearted)

Personally for the cost I wouldn't use them on the road just seems a waste.

Hence I have a couple of sets of wheels, 888's for track pe2's or the like for road..

888's certainly wont last long using them on the road.. and aren't exactly cheap

Thats my other concern. Everyone seems to like pe2s. What r they lol

They are michelin pilot exalto 2, and imo probably one of the best road tyres available atm for the price. The only tyre i would say that was better atm was the sport pilot 2.

Full set of pe2 for my 2118's is £200, bargain for the performance.

we run on our 182 the standard wheels with normal road tyres for daily driving.

but just done a ring trip with one of the sets of 15's and 888's and as said many times previously within this thread, they are insanely awesome in the dry, they are very much confidence inspiring and you get some great feedback from them, but they are noisy and do resemble a wheel bearing on its way out.

just this week ive bought another set of 15's and today 2 more sets of 888's ready for the trackdays planned ahead, i love them and they suit our little cars perfectly which is why ive gone for them again.

with a heavier car, such as the escort we do find that they can go out of there temperature range if doing a few consequetive flying laps, so they need a cooling lap to allow them to come back to a more reasonable temperature, we were monitoring them over 3 points of the tyre, and also the effect this had on the presures within them.

ive known a few to use them for wet track days and still sung them high praises, but thats down to your own bottle and how confident you feel within your car and personal abilities.
from my personal point of view i wouldnt waste them on daily driving where you cant exploit there full potential.

just my 2p worth ;)

Thanks kelv. I 100% want some for track. Probs end up getting some other wheels and using t1r and r1r tyres for daily
