Ranout of petrol - now wont start

Hi all,

My girlfriend has a 98 Clio 1.2, and recently ran out of petrol...! I've put some petrol in, and done the usual thing of shaking the hell out of the car to try and get it started, but it just won't catch.

Can anyone give me any hints on what I can do to get it started?

more petrol, mate of mine ran out of petrol anf he had to empty half a jerry can in to it befoe it would start agian!
