RATTLE WHEN WARM HELP

my mate has a 172 and when its cold its fine but when warm the engine has a rattle,goes away when the revs are above a 1000,been told its the variable timing sproket,could this be the problem any help please guys.thanks ste

Probably a camshaft dephaser.

Do a search on here, theres loads of info on them.

It can be fixed, but its new cambelt time if you wantit done properly iirc.
