Rattles!

Went on a mission today to get rid of ALL the rattles in my car.

After about an hour i had both front and rear door cards out, and was armed with cable ties and foam pads.

I tied up all the calbles that were left dangling to something solid, and the bits of shitty french plastic trim that were loose got padded with the foam pads. I also managed to fix the rattle on my passenger seat runner. All that is left to do tomorrow is to take the dashboard off and give that the same treatment.

The only rattles i can hear now are one under my dash and one on the rear spoiler when the sub is on... will be sorted tomorrow!

great fun! :D

Wanna spend a day with mine and de-rattle it?

Car is at Rentech for the next two days if so...

How did you stop the rattle from the passenger seat runners. I've got the same bloody problem and can hear it above the f**king stereo on full blast!

to tell you the truth, i dont know lol

first i got under there and sprayed the whole lot with degreaser, then dried it. then i got some grease and made sure it was all lubed up nice.

after that i sat in the chair and slid backwards and forwards about 20 times to make sure everything was greased lol. must have looked quite funny from outside the car! :D

So you didn't actually take the chair out?

The drivers chair on mine has probably got a rattle but i just never hear it because i'm sitting in it which stops it from rattling. If I was to drive my car lent over from the passengers seat, which would look very weird, then I would probably hear that rattle.

Middo - will probably last the best part of a week if that.

I've got to get around to doing my passenger seat, it's driving me bonkers. Other than that I may have a slight rattle on the drivers door card, nothing else rattles I beleive.

Rattling is Renaults way of telling you the car is in one piece, if its not rattling its fallen off. :clown:

I have recently done a similar thing on my Clio, I rebuilt the sunroof handle and did the inside of doors and wrapped the rear headrest arms in black electrical tape to stop them jiggling.

My 172 has an annoying buzzing noise that I think comes from somewhere around the middle of the dash at 4250 rpm. Quite loud and very annoying when accelerating hard.

I plan to do this in the summer

My scientific theory is that "Renault" is French for "Rattle" :clown:

Does it rattle in all positions? I found that if I move the seat a notch or two forward or backwards from the rattling position everything is ok. This also might explain its sudden disappearance without actually doing anything!

My passenger side tweeter grill on the dash has a nasty rattle sometimes. How do I fix this? Also there's something under the dash where the glovebox is but I haven't built up the courage to remove the dash yet ... for fears of setting off the airbag and/or creating more rattles!!

removing the dash is very easy. no need to worry about the airbag if you do it properly, but you can disconnect the battery for 20 mins first to be safe :)

i can remove the dash in about 10 mins now... its just knowing where the screws are really.

Ive done a guide for the Mk2 Ph1 dash on my website CLICK.

It's a high pitched vibration that sounds almost like plastic vibrating against something, I could be wrong though. I can recreate it easily enough by driving at 70mph in 4th gear.

I really need to do this to mine. Got fubar's guide for removing the doorcards and will deffo give it a go soon...
