Realistic expectations for a major service incl belts...

JJH

Car  Elise
First off, apologies because I know this is such a common topic, but I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on the purchase of a 182 that is due for the big 72k service including belts and the full works, plus a couple of tyres. It's a 182 (with air con). I'm thinking that realistically I'm probably looking at £1k all in. Is this a fair estimate in the "real world" rather than the "my mate heard of someone who got it all done for £xxx" world?

Also would be looking for a decent specialist in the Kent/Sussex area and while places like Portsmouth (RenTech) or Essex(Mark Fish) are possible, I'd prefer something a little closer to home if possible. Suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks.

Depends on how much you are paying for the car and then shelling out 1k on top
I would buy one that's got a good service history and belts just done from someone like
R-Sports cars on here who sells top notch clios

600 for service and then depends on what tyres you want. Many different opinions on tyres. I have michelin ps3's atm and tbh the pirellis are a better option as the price is a lot cheaper.

I was quoted around £600 for belt and dephaser by Ren7oaks who should be local to you. Obviously this includes aux belt kit as well. Dunno how much for fluids etc but I wouldn't pay someone to do that anyway.

Can I ask a stupid question but why is it so expensive to do the belts on the 182. Audi done my timing belt on my s3 for £350. Is it an engine out job?

It just requires a lot of labour due to poor access, a few parts need to be removed to gain access etc.

^That, and also the parts involved. The belts on their own aren't TOO expensive, my local specialist does the timing belt and aux belt for £380 all in, but as soon as you add the dephaser on top of that, it's roughly another £200, and then you might need new oil and oil filter for the dephaser too, and that could be another £40-50 with a decent spec oil.
