Really need help with my ICE

  1.2 16v (Race Spec)

I really dont know what to do with my ICE, i was hoping for some help from you lot.

I thought about getting an Alpine headunit, Phoenix Gold Comps and a sub both of which amped up. But i keep seeing those 5" subs to go in rear quarters, what do people think with this setup aswell as above? I havent seen anyone with this setup so i would like your thoughts please. Thankyou.

My music is really my priority so I want to get it sorted asap.

it is posible, but would take a lot of work

you would need to make fibreglass enclusures mounted to the rear of the panel, there is enough rooom, but no-one here has attempted it

much better idea though than co-ax or components in the same location

personally i would just go for some kind of decent 4 channel amp, a set of components up front running from 2 channels of the amp, then the other 2 channels bridged to a 10" sub in a small box (if boot space is an issue) or a 12" sub in a normal box (if space isnt so much of an issue)

using the right crossover points, and a decent amplifier, you can create a decent level of quality and volume.

the 5" subs go straight in! iv asked my loocal car audio shop! yea i wud probably av a 10" cz i listen 2 drum n bass a lot so i need the bass 2 keep up, im talkin sense rite?

yes the 5"ers go straight in, but you have to make enclosures for them!! this is the hard part, which is why i never done it myself

to be honest, are you after SQ or SPL???

you listen to DnB/Hip Hop which means (in general) you like deep bass, go for a 12" sub, not the best music for quality, the 10"er would not produce bass low enough to sound right with that genre of music (IMHO)

I have fitted 2 focal utopia 5ws subs in the rear quarters of my 172. They slotted straight in. The sound is getting better as they break in. Though at the moment the amp is having to work quite hard to get the best out of them. Though i have been told once they settle they should sound very nice.

The bonus was that i kept in with the stealth mission of the project and gave me some good bass

Where are you from, wkd_clio_16v? If you are from anywhere near Leeds, Wakefield or Hull, get yourself into RAM mobile electronics. Just ask them to have a look at the car, the gear and shoot some ideas by you.

Alternatively, look at

www.rammobile.com

and email them.

Cheers,

Jon

rob878 - did you make the enclosures for the focal subs?? because AFAIK they never made any free-air 5" subs

no Bambam i didnt make any enclosures and as such im probably wasting the potential of the subs, but as the system is for my pleasure and the nearest ill get to a competition is if i get lost on the way home, theyll do for now till i get in there with some board in behind there and seal the area off.
