Rear beam swap

Does the RSi have rear disks?

And does a 16v have a wider track than a 1.4?

Also proportionally, how much work do the rear disks actually do? If I kept rear drums and fitted big front disks, would that be ok for a big increase in power ie transplant?

How much work in swapping rear beam?

RSi do have rear discs..

And I would like to know if a 16v had a wider track at the back than a normal Clio.. if it ISNT wider, Id probably do a swap to get the discs and more importantly, the 4 torsion bar setup.. Looking at the 16v, the back doesnt look any wider, but I could be wrong - if its wider, it wont fit on mine cus my alloys just perfect for the standard arch.

Rear Discs, Id only want for looks.. heh, dont think they work that much.

may look for RSi setup.

Do you think rear disks are necessary for more power? WHat front setup would you recommend?

drums provide more braking force throughout braking.

Rears do about 40% of the braking. Not 10 or 20 like idiots and magazines say.

The rear open beam is wider and it has less toe in as well.

as chris says, drums and shoes are better because they have a larger contact area, they dont cope with heat as well as discs and pads though!

if you have drums, make sure you keep then adjusted up and the adjusters clean and working well!

as for fronts, 288 big discs kit and Pagid pads, unbeatable!

how do you keep drums adjusted - isnt there an auto-adjust mechanism? is there a good way to set up drums and shoes after changing the shoes then?

auto adjusters rarely do their job.

You can clean them up and make sure the adjuster tangs spring is actually putting tension on it.

I grind any lip off the drum and fit it then adjust the shoes so the drum is in very light contact with the pads like they would be normally.

Sorry got 1 more question, dont want to sound stupid but I dont understand how fitting bigger disks improves braking.

I know K-Tec do a 285mm disk kit for my standard calipers, but surely with standard pads, there will only be the same surface area in contact with the disk, so how does fitting bigger disks help?

thanks

spin a bike wheel. Spin it near the centre with 1 finger. Also stop it with 1 finger at the same place. Now repeat that litte trick but at the rims edge. Much easier at the edge isnt it.

Leverage my boy.

Another way, undoing a wheel bolt with a 6 inch rathet then use a 2 foot breaker bar.

and here I thought it had something to do with better heat disbursal through the disk, more area in contact with the air...live n learn

Will 16v/willy calipers fit straight onto my front hubs?
I hope so! Got some Williams Brakes ready to go on mine!

Gold
Blue
Yellow
Orange.

Heh!

The 16v Rear Axle is 12mm longer than standard - so 6mm sticky outy each side..
