rear bearing

had the rear drum off today to change a cylinder that was pissing all over the shoes, and when i went to put it back on half the fecking bearing just came apart from the drum and sat on the axle on its own!the lower half (is it the outer race?) is still in the drum, and i have put the top half back in, but will i get away with it like this? do i need to have it pressed back in, or is it a sign its knackered and i should get a new bearing?

I would have thought that the bearing is one piece, dont you get a weird nosie whilst driving from that wheel?

no, never have!

just spoke to a mechanic, says it will be ok to put it back in with grease. gonna finally finish it now, if the rain stops pissing down.

yeah mate they always do that.

Clean it out pack it with grease. When you put the thing back in support the outer side of the bearing as it clips onto that and wont clip if you dont support it it will just try and push it out.

The rubber seal thingy, clean it off totally and then stick it on. A flat screwdriver is the tool to get the lip in the groove.

ok thanks, btw, when they say pack exactly how much is that? swamp it completely? sounds a bit of a gay question, just i always read that and wondered...
