Rear componsator spring

Just looked underneath my 172 track car and the spring that connects the comparator to the axle is missing, should this be fitted for track use or had it been removed for a reason?

That is how they leave the factory.

The Cups dont have them connected, hence why some MOT testers get confused and fail them.
