Rear suspension problem

  Clio Expression 3d 1.2 01
Hey there,

My Y reg clio 1.2 was lowered before i purchased it with 17" alloys, not sure how much its been lowered or how to check. Anyway, i went over quite a harsh bump down a road near my house and a black rubber ring type thing fell off the car i saw it fling away in rear view mirror. Then i noticed that the whole rear left wheel had sunk as if it had so suspension and as if it was touching the body work. The car was driveable JUST, but it was like being on a rollercoaster every time i went over bump like the suspension was non-existant in the rear. I took it to a gargage where they simply put back on the black rubber ring and told me it was the base of my suspension spring, and that it could happen again due to the springs being to short. I guess this means that they weren't correctly changed when lowered. He gave me two options, buy new dampers, or completely new springs, and he'd fit them for 250 quid. Is this a rip off or am i looking at a good price? Anyone had this problem before?

cheers

Get under it and take some pics, sounds like they are describing the rear spring pad either upper or lower but find it unlikely one could pop out without you losing the spring too :S

£250 to change the rear springs is a pisstake, its a ten minute job if that!
