Rear tyres changed, now steering problems?

Both rear tyres on my 2003 Expression were below 1.6mm so I've had two second-hand Continental Premium Contact fitted and balanced etc.

Ever since they were fitted last week I've had intermittent problems with steering, it occasionally feels very light, and every so often pulls to one side, especially when braking.

Could this be directly linked to the rear wheels not being balanced properly or is it more likely to be something else? I've had problems with slipped brake pads in the past, could it be this? :S

ave u tried avin ur tracking done i know sometimes that will make the car pull, i think if u got kwik fit they look at it for free unless there is some ajustment needed its like 23 quid

It's pretty unnerving, especially at high speeds on the motorway

My 172 is the same mate, had my tyres changed and feels really weird. Steering is really light and like you say pulls to one side. Had the tracking done, feels a bit better but still not 100% right.

just be you trying to pick faults with the car. If the car has just had the rear tyres replaced, then i doubt anything is wrong.

For piece of mind, maybe take it into kwik fit today, offer the guy on shift some cash to whip them off and check the balancing on the rears..

otherwise, i would say that you are looking for a fault.

The car pulling to the left under braking can be many things..

1. The tyres following the road, maybe some work has been done and the road not finished right.
2. The natural camber of the road.


I doubt tracking, as if you drive down the road then left go of the steering, if it pulls left, its ok, as thats the way the roads are shaped, but if it pulls excessively to the left, then maybe its out a little bit.

Live with a for a few weeks, and if its still the same, get em checked..

but my cash is on that there is nothing wrong than before, and you have just been looking for faults.

Your using second hand tyres is probably the problem I'd never use them IMO theres to many damaged tyres and wheels out there. They could be damaged.
