Reliability issues

Hey everyone, posted on her a few days ago about me buying the 1.2 16 sport on the 0% finance deal, but i was just wondering, ive never owned a renault before, what are they like for reliability, especially the mk2 1.2 16v?

yeah really reliable, my brand new 1.2 16v lasted a whole day

You see hundreds about, so the majority of them must be pretty reliable if looked after properly!

Ive had nothing but trouble with mine, I appreciate its a bit older but things have gone wrong that shoudnt all the same. Having said that my girlfriends brother has got a 3 year old 1.2 and has NEVER had any problems with it. My mates girlfriend has got a 95 clio, think it might be a 1.4, she has had it for 2 years and has never had a problem so its luck of the draw I reckon. I dont think Clios, new or old are as well built as some other cars, such as Polos or A3s, but they have a certain look and my valver is the most fun hatchback I have ever driven. And the clios are on the Top Gear cool board, so they must be!

Ive had 3 over the years, never had any reliability problems other than wear and tear - exhaust fell off my rt cos of the nobbers in thick-fit putting it on wrong, alternator passed away and the odd wheel bearing...

there will always be someone who has had nothing but problems, but that doesnt only apply to renaults - i had a audi a4 for a while and it was a well built car but i wouldnt say it was a good car - handled like a fat bird on a ice rink and things kept going wrong. My mates company BMW is always breaking down and things leak all over, so go get your 1.2 mate, if its new then its going to be under warranty anyway.....

I would say that they are probably fundamentally reliable (i.e it will start) but not very durable (i.e it will fall apart).But then thats true of almost every mass market European car. If you want absolute reliability, then buy a Mazda, or a Toyota or a Lexus.

If buy the Clio with the clear understanding that it may be fine or it may have a few issues, then youll be fine.

My car is so far mechanically sound (13k miles). The ECU plays up but it can be sorted so im not bothered. Interior wise theres a few shakes and rattles, noteably the sunroof but i think standard equipment makes up for this. You have a 3 year warranty to fall back on remember..

lol, thanks for the replies. As clio16vpaul says, ill have warranty becos its brand new. The only reason i was asking about reliability is because everyone ive told that ive bought a clio says theyre awful for reliability.

Well when my broke down (because of ecu f**king up!) the AA dude says he hardly ever deals with new renaults.
