remote cable from cig lighter

instead of splicing into ignition cable for an amp remote cable, can i wire it into the cig lighter?

why not just use the blue wire coming out the back of the headunit?

you could but it will then have a permanent live whenever the ignition is on, rather than just when the head unit is.

like fred said, just use the blue remote cable on the wiring loom, that's what its there for. what head unit is it?

Im using the standard head unit.

I did this once with the original head unit.....it was rubbish!

I wired in a little switch and used the cigarette lighter but sound quality was not great.

ah ritey, see ya point now - i was thinking you'd be using an aftermarket HU. Like schweppy said, sound quality won't be great due to the fact the stock HU isn't designed to be wired to an amp. My recommendation would be to just pick yourself up a cheapish JVC/Kenwood etc. from halfords or motorworld or somwhere - will make a massive difference trust me, plus chances are you'll then have sub connections if you were after those too
