Remote control & dash screen changes?

  1.6 Ford Focus
How exactly can the head unit be changed properly in a Mk2 Clio? I noticed the screen for the standard head unit is in the dash and there are remote controls by the steering wheel.

Question is, can the remote controls still be used with a different head unit and can the screen still be used or will it become totally useless?

Hai, i know that the steering wheel control's can be kept but you have to buy a kit for around £30 to keep them in use, infact someone sell's them on here mtaudio, as for the screen i think you will loose that and it will just display the time

Shame about the screen but if all still works that's fine.

I've got an after market head unit in my car and the screen on my dash just displays time and temp its never really bothered me as the head unit displays the name of the track and volume and all that stuff

Yes for the mk2 ph2 as i had one for my 182 but im not sure about the ph1

So for a Mk2 1.2l it will be £30 or £80?

Yeah if it just shows the time that's good enough for me, as you say the head unit is going to show the song, volume etc.

The car you are getting the one in your profile pic is classed as a ph1 and later model with the different headlights and mk2 ph2's, it depends what head unit you are getting the alpine stalk control adaptors are £80 and for the likes of jvc, sony, pioneer and so on are £30 for the adaptors

The one on my display pic isnt actually mine, I haven't bought mine yet but should be buying this weekend. The advert for it says 2001 X Reg Renault Clio 1.2 Grande 3dr... I have no idea what phase it is but your saying its a Mk2 Ph1?

I havent looked into head units much yet but the main thing I am after is one with a USB port on it and no more than £125. Just depends what comes along at the right price really.

I've just spied the splitter is being held on with a cable tie maybe try and get the garage to sort that the splitter on my old car came off one one side i just ripped it off and it didn't look to bad

Is this going to be your first car ???

That's really nice, where did you get the alloys? :p

The splitter has one of the clips missing and the guy in the garage just stuck it back on with a cable tie, im sure a new clip wont cost much at all but looking at yours I might just rip it off.

It is my first car :D I drove it earlier and its really easy to drive, then again that could be due to the fact I have already driven 6 other cars between 1.1l and 2.0l haha!

The alloy's are 17" OZ super turismo's i bought them from a shop in newcaslt ecalled revolution. As for the splitter the bit that attaches to the car has a metal plate in the rubber so once it comes off the staple it's really hard to get back on i tried to get myne back on but couldn't but like you sadi it look's ok with out or you could alway's get a different splitter. It's an awesome car for your first plenty of potential for modding but imo just keep it sublte (no silly bodykit's :S) yeah that's what i like about tha clio's they are very easy to drive and cheap to insure and tax its a win win with a clio :D

Nice, I will keep an eye out for similar ones.

Im sure there are different splitters on eBay but yeah I will probably just take it off completely. As its my first car I wont be doing anything major to it, just lights and alloys for the exterior and sound system, interior lighting for the interior. Mainly little cosmetic things, although if I can I will do the exhaust :).

Making my deposit tomorrow and will hopfuly be picking it up next weekend.

On your car description you say "Car: Clio 1.2 6V Mk2 Ph1" i think you mean Car: Clio 1.2 8V Mk2 Ph1 as unless you've some amazing new engine design which shares 1 valve between two cylinders or have a V6 as well as the 1.2

That's the spec I got from the advert on autotrader... :S

If my internet wasn't so ridiculously slow at the moment I would check it.

Yes well as you've 4 cylinders you would have to have multiples of 4 ranging from 8 up. (Minimum of 1 inlet valve and 1 exhaust valve.) Anyway Clio's are only 8v or 16v for that range. Back on thread, i've fitted literally hundreds of stalk controls in the past and its really just not worth getting the stalk and screen adaptors. In general all that is displayed on the screen is the make of radio you have, i.e. JVC Pioneer etc. and not the actual radio station name or track title. So for the pleasure of £80 instead of £30 you get a name of your radio. Renault put the screen at the top of the dash so you didn't have to move your eyes too far from the road to read the radio info. However most people are able to adapt to looking a little lower without crashing.

Must be an 8V then.

I count two errors on the advert, the valves are listed wrong and it said the car had a CD player yet the picture did show it with only cassette tape and that's all it had when I saw it. Im needing a new head unit...

I have decided t just keep the screen as a clock and just look down to see the radio, its mainly the remote control I need to work.
