remote locking not working!

hi ya all, iv got a 172 and went to get into it the other day and it wouldnt unlock by remote id noticed recently iv been having to get close to the car b4 it would unlock so thought the battery must of finaly died in the remote but iv put a new battery in it and it still doesnt work i get the red light flash up on the key but nothing happens! any ideas? thanks!!

you could have damaged something when changing the battery in the key?

Go stand near the car, press and hold the unlock button on the key for a few seconds. Then try unlocking/locking it again. This should 're-align' the key to the remote receiver in the car.
