Removing 172 seats

  1995 Mondeo Speed Machine

Greetings.

I am going to attempt to remove the passenger seat on my 172 this evening. Is it just a case of disconnecting the airbag connection and then unbolting the seat? How many bolts are there holding it in and how do I get to them?

Cheers

Hi Rick,

Indeed you need to disconnect the electronics under the passenger seat. There are 4 bolts holding the seats to the car. If u look underneath the car you will see 2 circles, underneath the two seats and these are 2 rubber gromits. Pull these out to reveal the first 2 bolts.

The other 2 bolts are next to the exhaust centre section. You may have to remove the centre section heat shield to gain access to them. For this u need a torx (sp) socket - its a small one, maybe a T15/T20 or something. I may be wrong though on the actual size name.

Once undone simply lever the seat out of car and safely to one side. Be aware that the front seats have seat belt pre-tensioners built into the clunk/clip thing on the side, and you really dont want them going off!

All the best.
