removing olive joint from the rear of the cat

hi all, i am going to be removing the olive joint from the rear end of my cat as it is whistling. is the pipe 2.5"? i'm guessing the way to do it is too cut off the olive joint and weld a few inches of pipe (2.5" pipe?) onto the end of the cat and then just rejoin it direct to my cat-back system.
