removing rubber coating from door handles

Does anyone have any experience doing this or know someone that has done it, and how they did it?

I'm wanting to spray mine as the rubber is mingin and falling apart.

I used wire wool or the rough surface from a washing up sponge and white spirit. Took forever but worked, thinners might work too.

i just used wet + dry and just sanded(with water) it till it was down to the plastic
