Is it possible to remove an airbag steering wheel from a 98+ clio???? I want to order an isotta one like right away but want to be sure I can actually fit it before I do!!
Nope its the isotta evolution, no airbag but will look lush with my re-trimmed and sprayed interior!!!
As ive already fitted 172 seats I have already removed the airbag light from my dash so that isnt a problem. Just needed to know it was possible. I figure I can hardly get a magazine feature with the standard blue plastic wheel!!
go for it matey they look really nice jsut gonna cost a bit to do it as far as i know cos i wanted to change mine to an isotta steering wheel but aint got the dollar at the moment
Ok, well bit late to tell ya, but the serv& airbag lights are easy to put out, you just put a resistor pack on the connector that used to go to the airbag.....
Just remember that when any airbag is in a fault state the whole airbag system in down and wont fire, so that includes ya passenger one too..... (Correct me on this if Im wrong)
I will get the info together about which pins to give a load across and post it up (when I find my bit of paper lol)
Just replace the light in the dash and do what I tell ya to wire round the missing airbags - then whatever is left will work 100% and no fault codes will be active on the ecu (Airbag faults are temporary not permanent
(Fred is waiting for me and my bit of paper too lol)
does anyone know if freds got a couple of pics of his motor fitted with the steering wheel cos Id luv to see one...been thinkin about doing this myself too...duno about the wheel suitin the dash mind..wanna see a pic!
Its not illegal to remove an airbag from the system, and not a problem to wire round them to keep the system active (as long as you do it right)..... what do you think is done in the 172 cups? is there a dash light on in them? nope.... it is wired around thats all.
mmmmm yummy, still very tempted to change mine after i had a peek at your wheel fred .
Some passenger airbags have a seat occupancy sensor and will not fire anyway if you dont have a passenger in the car, i dont think the clio has this hence the key switch to disable the passenger bag when child seats are fitted to the passenger seat. as for bypassing the airbags with resistors, makes sense as the whole system is resistance dependant and this is mainly why airbag lights are so commonly on and off due to pretentioners control units and wiring looms creating too much or too little resistance in the circuit and bringing the light up
disconntecting the battery is a good idea and i dont blame fred for wearing a helment airbags are pretty mad when they go off, one of the guys in our workshop didnt disconnect the battery and was removing part of the dash and set the passenger airbag off which put his head through the windscreen give it a couple of hours after diconnecting as KDF said
we used to ave great fun with airbags on steering wheels........lay em face down on the floor & connect a battery to em with a bloody long wire.....then make contact....watch em fly !!!!! youd be suprised how high they go !! lol
Guessing no-one ever re-connects the air bag wheel then?? LOL
Ordered my steering wheel, only problem is ive got to wait 6 weeks to have the hub sent over from italy!!!!!! I could have tried a different brand which they had in stock, but I decided to wait for the aluminium isotta. If somethings worth doing its worth doing right!!!!! Plus it wouldnt be funny to find the steering wheel came off in your hands whilst doin 80 down a motorway!!!
Well the guy assured me thats the one it was and charged me an extra £30 so it better be. If it turns out to be the black one Ill expect the £30 quid back!!!!
So has anyone actually got a step by step guide on how to change the steering wheels over then??????
fred just out of curiousity mate have u changed the illumination on ur dashboard mate cos ur clocks look blue...if u have, how did u do it u b*****d and did u change every light in ur dash so it all matched...would it b possible to keep my lockwood dials if I did
